The Civil War in Equatorial Kundu began in 2005 C.E. The war, between the Loyalists and the Rebels, has continued after a reignition of hostilities, following a short ceasefire mediated by the global community. The Loyalist forces, the Democratic Federal Party of Kundu Militia and Armed Forces, ie the KMAF, are a party-paramilitary-and-army who serve under the leadership of the party and subsequently President of Equatorial Kundu, Jabali Nzeogwu. The Rebel forces are known as the Batante United Front for Democracy, also known as the BUFD. The BUFD is a coalition of rebel cells, including Islamist, Christian, Communist, Socialist, Anarchist, minority tribal groups and pro-Liberal-Democracy organizations. The war has largely been between the KMAF and BUFD, though with the emergence of one Islamic Caliphate in Kundu, the fighting has slowly moved towards a major civil war.
Though the BUFD has gained ground in the reignited civil war, it was not without losses. The BUFD advance, has however stopped at the Dam'uzima river, in the southern half of the country. With this solidity of a foothold for the rebels, foreign benefactors have become more involved, especially with the uncovering of massacres committed by pro-Government forces. More will be revealed as the war rages on.
The actions of Lieutenant Rouge, an officer within the BUFD, have left the organization in a difficult situation. Multiple splinter groups have formed such as the Abala Front and the Lord's Army. The KMAF's strength has grown in this schism, emboldening their leaders.
